Closing Your STN Account

Closing Your STN Account

There are many valid reasons to close an account, including selling your business, going out of business, or other very valid reasons.

Before you decide to close your account, we would like to review your account with you. There may be options available to you that make more sense than closing the account. Please contact us if you would like to discuss any of the options available to you.

Here are a few common questions that are asked when thinking about closing an account:

Can I place my website “on hold” instead of closing it?

Yes. You  may request to put a project “on hold.” Specialty Toys Network reserves the right to determine at its sole discretion if such a request is feasible for said project. If feasible, any fees paid, minus the billable value of any used studio time will be held as a reserve by Specialty Toys Network. A $100 annual on-hold service fee is required in order to place and keep an account on hold. When you wish to resume project services, Specialty Toys Network will apply any reserved amount to the new services requested. Any On Hold project with annual fees overdue by 30 days or more will be considered a closed account, and will be cancelled by Specialty Toys Network, and any reserves held for the project will be forfeit by the Client. Said reserves will not be eligible for a refund. On Hold requests will be accepted via fax, letter or e-mail, and must be received by the stated cancellation deadline. Client is responsible for confirming that Specialty Toys Network comes into receipt of the request. All On Hold requests must be made by the account owner or credit card holder.

Can I sell my website to another business?

Yes. If you are selling your business, you can definitely include the website as an asset of the business – an asset that can be worth a great deal to a new owner. The new owners will incur a minor fee from STN for setting up a new account with us, but they can take over management of the website as part of the business. If you are interested in selling your website, please contact your project manager. We may be able to recommend a transitional plan that will cut your membership costs to a minimum while you are trying to sell your business.

Do I need to give written notice?

Yes, we require a 30 day written notice for any service cancellations.

What happens to my email?

In most cases, your website hosting includes multiple email accounts from the same domain (e.g.johnsmith@mydomain.com). If you close your hosting account, you will by default be closing any associated email accounts at the same time. If you have off-site email accounts (e.g. johnsmith@gmail.com), these should not be affected; but, in some cases you may have forwarders setup (e.g. mail sent to johnsmith@mydomain.com is forwarded to johnsmith@gmail.com). In this case, any email sent to the domain address (johnsmith@mydomain.com) will not forward once the account is closed. If you have questions about your account email settings, please contact your project manager.

NEED EMAIL ONLY?
If you are wanting to maintain email service, we may be able to downgrade your account to remove web-hosting, but maintain email services. Please contact support@stoysnet.com for additional information.

What happens to my domain(s)?

Here are a few common situations regarding domain names. If you have questions about your domain(s), please contact your project manager.

1. STN is managing your domain(s) for you

When you close your account, we will convert your domain management services to a stand-alone service. This means that we will not be paying for domain renewal as part of your STN Hosting & Membership. 30 days before your domain is set to renew, we will send you an invoice for domain renewal. If you wish for us to renew the domain on your behalf, simply send in a payment for the invoice before the renewal date. We will maintain the domain for you as long as your account balance is current. If you wish to let your domain(s) registration expire, please let us know, and we will remove that service from your account. If you do not send in a payment for any invoiced domain renewals before the renewal date, we will assume you do not wish for us to renew the domain on your behalf, and we will elect to let it lapse or convert it to a property of Specialty Toys Network.

If you wish to have us manage your domain(s), but host a new website on another server, that is fine. Please send us your new DNS Addresses, and we will update your domain settings. Please allow up to 72 hours for DNS migration to complete.(Your account balance must be paid up-to-date in order for us to update your domain settings.)

If you wish to transfer your domain to another registry service, that is okay as well. A couple notes regarding transfers: 1) Your account balance must be paid up-to-date in order for us to approve the transfer request; and 2) please initiate the request 60 days before the domain’s annual renewal date. This will help ensure that you can transfer the domain without a problem. Our domain registry service (GoDaddy.com) does not allow transfers within 30 days of renewal dates. (This is a common industry practice, and not anything we have control over.)

2. You are managing your own domain(s)

When you close your account, our web/email servers will no longer direct traffic to your website. If you wish to route your domain to another web server, you will need to do that through your domain registry service.

3. You have multiple domains

If you have multiple domains, we may be managing domain(s) for you, and you may be managing your own domain(s). It is a good idea to transfer all your domains to one registrar.

4. You wish to transfer your domains to another registry service

You do not need to transfer domain registry service if you are wanting to move to another hosting provider. If you wish to have us manage your domain(s), but host a new website on another server, please send us your new DNS Addresses, and we will update your domain settings. Please allow up to 72 hours for DNS migration to complete. (Your account balance must be paid up-to-date in order for us to update your domain settings.)

If you have questions about your domain(s), please contact your project manager.

What happens to my website files?

Once an account is closed, your website and email files are no longer accessible. All files will be purged within 30 days. If you have information either from the site or from email accounts that you wish to save, you must save the files to your local hard-drive before the account is closed.

What if I want to restart the account?

If you decide that you want to restart your account, please advise your project manage in writing as soon as possible. Once an account is closed, there is no guarantee that we can restore all (or any) files… but we understand that this is a request that might happen. So the sooner you contact us, the better the chances are that we can restore some or all of your account.

Can I get an off-line archive of my website?

Your STN account is composed of many components, so it is not practical to get an off-line archive of your account, but we can provide you with a “developers file kit” that will include the key components of your website. If you are interested in this service, please contact your project manager (there is a cost associated with this service).

Can I reuse my website on another server?

Yes, but not all components or content is transferable. To create a copy of your website that is as close to the original as possible, we would need to create a “stand-alone site” for you. If you are interested in this service, please contact your project manager (there is a cost associated with this service). There are also content rights to consider. As a paid member of Specialty Toys Network, you are purchasing temporary usage rights to certain data that we supply, such as: a) product details, b) promotional banners and c) textual content templates. Access and usage rights to any content that we provide for the STN Members as a group is not transferable to non-STN members. For example, you could not join STN, download a bunch of product data, close your account, and use the product data on another website. If you have any questions as to what content is transferable, please contact your project manager.
